Jun Shihan Steve Foster

6th Dan

Jun Shihan Steve began his training in Seido Karate in the Central Wellington Dojo in 1994, without grading. His training continued at the Kingsland Dojo in Auckland under the tutelage of Sensei Roger James and Sensei Troy Ballantyne.


A job opportunity brought Jun Shihan Steve to Christchurch in 1997, when he transferred to the Christchurch Shibu under Hanshi Renzie. Jun Shihan Steve graded to Shodan in December 1999, achieved Godan in 2015 and now holds the rank of Jun Shihan attained in 2023. Jun Shihan Steve has travelled and trained in a variety of dojo’s around New Zealand and abroad. He has trained at Honbu on two occasions and also enjoyed training in Australian while on temporary work assignments there.

Between 2001 and 2011, Jun Shihan Steve instructed the Monday night class, primarily a syllabus class aimed at blue and yellow belt level.

Jun Shihan Steve recommenced instructing in 2017 and now teaches the brown belt class on Wednesday 7pm -8pm. This class is designed to challenge students by focusing on their fitness, their knowledge of the syllabus and how effective technique is performed.
