Troy Ballantyne has practiced Seido Karate for several years, originally starting in Nelson and spending periods training in Auckland and Japan before settling in Christchurch. Through this background, coupled with two training trips to the New York Honbu, he has developed a true appreciation for both the uniqueness and core similarities among the Seido instructors and Dojo worldwide.
Troy has a strong interest in sparring, modern coaching methodologies and other applied training methods. He considers himself a student of these areas rather then an instructor.
The Tuesday and Thursday morning Pad classes are reflective of this approach and consist of a variety of pad training, conditioning and applicable skills work. The emphasis is on developing strong fundamentals while allowing room for students to develop their own ‘Tokui waza' (favourite techniques). The atmosphere is more causal then many classes, music is usually playing and T-shirts are the standard training wear - but the work ethic expected is high.
Bag gloves are required.
